An adventurous new you (Part 3 of 4)

Your vision, your goals

The topic of discussion in my previous blogs have been the value in taking lessons learned forward, working out what you want next and forwarding the action in a way that is fruitful. This comes from the belief that every situation we face is an opportunity to learn and grow and that our ability to achieve is closely connected to our ability to conceive the idea and believe that it is possible.

This leads me nicely to the topic of making change. Having touched on ways to approach goal setting last time, I noted that guidance on how to create your vision is rather limited in the literature that I have read. Here are some strategies that I would like to share with you…

VISION BOARDING

Sometimes people who want to create a clear vision often create a vision board. If you haven’t heard of them, look them up or contact me for more information about how they can be used. This is a simple and creative way to explore your hopes, dreams, values and desires. If you are looking for a creative tool to help you to capture ideas, themes and the experiences that you want to have, then you will love this way of working. This process invites you increase your awareness of what you want and in doing so become attracted to making this possible, much like the law of attraction.

SMART / FREE GOALS

When it comes to making the goal into a reality, if you enjoy a formal goal-setting approach then SMART goals might appeal to you. Smart goals encourage you to focus on specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time specific goals. You can then work from the end goal and create measurable milestones to reach at different timescales along the way.

For me, FREE goals are more appealling. I was introduced to this concept by Andrew and Pete. This involves creating goals that are fun, ridiculous, exciting and emotionally charged. This more creative and dynamic approach invites you to “simply think big”. It works in alignment with my preferred style of goal setting.

TRIUMPH BOARDS

This ‘small but mighty’ twosome are also advocates of having a ‘triumph board’ where you can map your successes, moments of pride and milestones along the way to keep reminding you that you are already on the way to creating change and having momentum. In contrary to the ‘to do’ list, this invites you to have a ‘have done’ list and celebrate your successes along the way.

Perhaps you already know what you want to achieve and are pondering on how you can make this possible through your own actions and with the support of a good team. If this is the case then keep reading, next week I plan to share with you my favourite strategies to do this.

My best hopes for you involve you having a clear road map and the most useful hints to boost you on your adventurous journey ahead.
